TTSL awards $15 million contract to China-based Huawei to upgrade its wireline network

March 30, 2015

Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) has reportedly awarded a three-year contract worth $15 million (Rs 930 million) to China-based Huawei to upgrade its wireline network. Under the deal, Huawei will modernise TTSL’s pan-India IP-based core network with routers that support 100G and 400G technology. This deployment of core routers will enable TTSL to handle more data services.

Huawei has been receiving several contracts for wireline networks. In 2014, the company received a $150-million pan-India deal with Vodafone India to upgrade the latter's wireline networks. Apart from this, Huawei has also been awarded contracts by Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular worth $60 million each to deploy solutions that can upgrade and augment capacity of their respective wireline networks.

To cater to the growing data demand, TTSL recently upgraded its 3G network to High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA+) technology with the help of Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia Networks in Karnataka and Haryana and Punjab circles. TTSL offers GSM and CDMA services in 19 telecom circles, including 3G services in nine circles.
