Cyber attackers prefer mega breaches: Symantec Corporation
Symantec Corporation, a global provider of computer security, back-up and availability solutions software to organisations has published its annual Internet Security Threat Report (ISTR) 2014.
In the report, the company has identified 2014 as the year of mega security breaches. The findings of the report show that cyber attackers prefer mega breaches that are planned for months rather than quick executions, which tend to have lesser impact on an organisations’ network.
According to the report, in comparison to the previous year, there has been a 62 per cent increase in the number of data breaches globally resulting in 552 million identities exposed. Further, targeted attacks were up by 91 per cent in 2013, indicating that organisation have not taken adequate measures to strengthen their security networks. Ad far as security breaches in India are considered, the report indicates that over 69 per cent of the targeted attacks are carried out on large enterprises in the country.
