Fibre-based networks have been deployed in Europe over the last 10 years. During this time, operators have faced multiple challenges in offering this technology to home users. These include:
- All services will be offered over Wi-Fi networks in the FTTx home, but every house or apartment is unique.
- The technological lifecycle in an FTTx deployment spans between three and 20 years.
- New network deployments ought to be planned for non-correlating subscribers signing up for these services.
Keeping in mind these challenges, operators ought to focus on offering capex- optimised broadband services to customers, without limiting the scope for growth and upgrades.
