The government has amended the licence conditions for very small aperture terminal (VSAT) service providers to allow them to obtain an ISP licence and provide internet broadband services using VSATs. Redistribution of the service to multiple users located in the vicinity of the VSAT will also be possible now. Earlier, the VSAT licence allowed services to be offered in only a closed user group, provided there was a minimum of two VSAT installations.

Now, even a single VSAT deployed in an area to a single subscriber will be allowed for internet broadband services. Also, internet services can be further redistributed from this VSAT subscriber to others in nearby dwellings.
