Huawei upgrades Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's existing network to NGN
Currently, BSNL is replacing its existing equipment in telephone exchanges in Chennai Telephones and Tamil Nadu with internet protocol (IP)-based NGN switches in phases. It is expected that the migration to NGN network would be completed in the next three to four years.
In Chennai Telephones, 48 telephone exchanges will be upgraded to NGN in two phases. In the first phase, BSNL is targeting to replace equipment over 15 years old in 11 telephones exchanges, including exchanges such as Kodambakkam, K. K. Nagar and Mambalam. An estimated 55,000 telephone lines will be upgraded NGN in the first phase which is expected to be completed by December 2013. In the second phase of the plan, 37 exchanges would be upgraded to MGN network.
An NGN-based network is expected to help BSNL offer its users an improved voice quality and an enhanced broadband experience.
