CommScope launches new architecture for in-building wireless systems

CommScope has unveiled a new architecture for in-building wireless systems. The ION-E is a unified wireless infrastructure platform designed around IT-based structured cabling architecture. The architecture enables operators and enterprises to address challenges related to poor indoor coverage and capacity enhancement. It integrates the wireless network and power plus gigabit Ethernet for Wi-Fi into a unified wireless network.

As a multi-band, multi-operator and multi-technology platform, the ION-E employs a standard grid approach and supports on-demand software defined frequencies, and is scalable. The platform can be scaled up to support buildings with an area of 5,000 square metres to 500,000 square metres.

Agilent Technologies introduces the ICP-MS and MP-AES platforms

Agilent Technologies, Inc. has launched the 7900 inductively coupled plasma – a mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) – and the 4200 microwave plasma – an atomic emission spectrometer (MP-AES). The spectrometers can be used by laboratory personnel for carrying out complex spectrum analysis along with testing of various applications.

Both spectrometers offer high matrix tolerance, which enables researchers to measure samples containing up to 25 per cent total dissolved solids, which is 10 times higher than the current benchmark set by the 7700 ICP-MS. This enables direct measurement of samples that cannot be accessed by ICP-MS. The products are claimed to offer enhanced trace-level detection with an optimised expansion-stage vacuum system and a new orthogonal detector system (ODS), which reduces background noises and improves signal-to-noise for 10-fold lower detection limits. Further, ICP-MS-ODS technology delivers up to 11 orders of magnitude dynamic range, enabling users to measure trace elements and majors simultaneously. This functionality eliminates analyte-specific tuning and simplifies method development, virtually eliminating over-range results. The 4200 MP-AES series of spectrometers also offer enhanced security features. Since the devices do not use flammable and oxidising gas, the system can be left unattended while undertaking overnight multi-element analysis. MP expert software features advanced tools such as FLIC and IECs for eliminating spectral interferences.

Mediatek introduces the MT6630 SOC for mobile devices

Mediatek has launched the MT6630, the five-in-one combo wireless system-on-a-chip (SOC) to support full feature smartphones, tablets and other mobility devices.

The MT6630 eliminates external low noise amplifiers and integrates the Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz power amplifiers (PAs), Bluetooth PA, and the transmit-receive (T/R) switch into a PCBA footprint of less than 65 mm2.

The key features of the product are:

•Dual-band single-stream 802.11a/b/g/n/ac with 20/40/80MHz channel bandwidth

•802.11v time of flight protocol support and management engines to enable higher accuracy of indoor positioning through Wi-Fi

•Advanced support for Wi-Fi services and Miracast optimisation for easier pairing, increased robustness, advanced use-cases and lower power consumption

•FM transceiver with RDS/RBDS

•Integrated engines and algorithms for full concurrent operation and coexistence, including high speed throughput for delivering long term evolution services.

The MT6630 is available in 5x5 mm WLCSP (Wafer Level Chip Scale Package) and a 7x7 mm QFN (Quad Flat No-Leads) and requires only 44 components.

Brocade launches VDX Ethernet fabric switches

Brocade has introduced VDX Ethernet fabric switches – VDX 6740T-1 and VDX 8770. With this, the company has expanded its portfolio of cloud-optimised, fabric-enabled switches. VDX Ethernet fabric switches provide a native, network-based solution to multi-tenant scale enabling data centre operators to retain full network visibility and utilise their existing applications.

The switches support multi-tenancy, thereby minimising disruption of data centre operations and organisational models. The VDX 6740T-1 and VDX 8770 switches are hypervisor agnostic and support clients who require more than one hypervisor vendor in their data centres. Both the products provide automated tenant provisioning through open application programming interface and OpenStack. The VDX 6740T-1 switch with 48×1 GbEBase-T ports can be upgraded to 10 GbEBase-T. The VDX 8770 switches offer three modules – 6×100 GbE port, 27×40 GbE port and 48×10 GbEBase-T port. The 6×100 GbE port module supports 100 GbE ports on demand capabilities within Ethernet fabrics. The 27×40 GbE port module is targeted for dense 40 GbE spine/middle-of-row deployments. The module is optimised with large buffers to absorb microburst traffic in data centres. The 48×10 GbEBase-T port module supports 1/10 GbE connectivity directly on copper interfaces. The Brocade VDX 6740T-1 is priced at $14,995. The Brocade VDX 8770 supporting the 48x10G-T, 27x40G and 6x100G port modules are priced at $45,000, $60,000 and $96,000 respectively.

Palo Alto Networks unveils the PA-7050 firewall

Palo Alto Networks has introduced the next-generation firewall, the PA-7050. It supports full application enablement, IPS, AV and WildFir active on all networks.

The firewall is targeted at meeting organisations’ comprehensive security requirements as it can be deployed from the edge of the enterprise telecom network to the data centre. The PA-7050 functions on the PAN operating system and supports throughput speeds of up to 120 Gbps for core firewall functionality. The product features a distributed processing architecture to provide scalable performance. For building additional network capacity, users can add network processing cards to the PA-7050 chassis.  All traffic going through the PA-7050 is automatically balanced across the network processing modules, thereby increasing network performance.

SanDisk introduces the USB 3.0 flash drive

SanDisk Corporation has launched the SanDisk Extreme PRO USB 3.0 flash drive, which supports 128 GB of storage. The USB 3.0 flash drive offers write speeds up to 240 Mbps and read speeds of up to 260 Mbps. Higher speeds allow users to transfer a full-length movie in seconds or 1,000 high resolution photos in less than 35 seconds.

The product also offers users SanDisk SecureAccess software which provides 128-bit AES file encryption and password protection for securing private files while leaving the rest of the drive visible for sharing. The SanDisk Extreme PRO USB 3.0 flash drive is priced at Rs 16,388.

Digisol launches the 300 Mbps wireless ADSL 2/2+ broadband router

Digisol has introduced the 300 Mbps wireless ADSL 2/2+ broadband router with a USB port. The ADSL router DG-BG4300NU provides downstream speeds of up to 24 Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 1 Mbps. In addition, it offers the RJ11 telephone port for ADSL connections, a USB 2.0 port for connecting 3G data cards and four RJ45 Ethernet interfaces for connecting to notebooks/desktops or other network devices.

The DG-BG4300NU has a built-in access point allowing multiple wireless clients to access local area network resources. The router also supports configuration of three additional guest wireless networks with user isolation. The DG-BG4300NU provides redundancy by switching the internet connection between the ADSL port and the 3G network in the case of failure of a primary wide area network link. Further, the router claims to offer robust data security using WPA2. The DG-BG4300NU wireless broadband router supports WPS (Wi-Fi-protected set-up), thereby simplifying wireless client set-up procedures (using the push button) and enabling users to easily secure their wireless network. The router also supports quality of service based on the application, the IP address and physical port-based users. The DG-BG4300NU is priced at Rs 2,749.
