The module series supports an HSPA download speed of 7.2 Mbps and upload speed of 5.76 Mbps. The product features a high speed USB 2.0 port and a dual-band UMTS/HSPA engine, enabling 3GPP Release 7-compliant data communications. The battery-operated device is equipped with eight I/O ports, and two A/D and one D/A converters. For streamlined application development and system integration, the company offers RIL drivers for leading operating systems. The embedded python script interpreter features a processing core in the cellular engine, which supports customer applications. The processing core also supports the Telit GPS system and Glonass receiver module, and can be used as a tracking device.
Spirent’s CS8 Mobile Device Tester to support LTE-TDD technology
Spirent has extended support for long term evolution-time division duplex (LTE-TDD) technology on its testing platform – the CS8 Mobile Device Tester. The CS8 platform can be used for data throughput, voice quality, location-based services and mobility testing for chipsets, and mobile devices that support LTE-TDD.
The product allows device development teams to emulate MIMO-enabled cells for both LTE-TDD and LTE-frequency division duplexing (LTE-FDD) networks simultaneously within a single handset. It will help engineers to integrate live network service experience measurement tools for achieving enhanced voice quality and data performance. Spirent has also integrated its DatumLab (a lab-based evolution of Datum, which is a measurement tool used for quantifying device performance in the live network) solution with the CS8 platform for data performance measurement of LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD devices. In addition, the CS8 uses Spirent’s Nomad HD measurement system to enable voice quality performance analysis, and compare key metrics during the testing stage as well as on-field trials, which would ensure an enhanced user experience in HD-based voice services in LTE-TDD networks.
Further with the standardisation of location-based features on smartphones, ensuring real-world performance for both emergency services and location-enabled applications is critical. In this regard, the CS8 platform supports LTE-TDD A-GPS over-the-air testing, which is a methodology to determine the effects of the antenna to provide a comprehensive validation of GPS in mobile devices. The platform provides developers a single-instrument solution that enables testing of devices in various radio frequency fading and noise conditions.
Dax Networks launches network-attached storage device
Dax Networks has introduced the DX-2116X-NAS-R, a network-attached storage (NAS) device. The device features an advanced redundant array of independent disk (RAID) configuration, which ensures data protection and enhanced performance.
It has a built-in iSCSI target service, an HDD of 16 swappable and lockable drives, where each drive has a capacity of up to 3 TB and supports 4 GB local area network (LAN) and six USB ports. An administrator can replace or upgrade the drive without turning off the device. The product offers a backup solution, which is compatible with cloud-based storage such as Amazon S3 and the Apple Time Machine. It is also equipped with a real-time remote replication feature, which facilitates backup of new and modified files in another folder or a remote NAS. The DX-2116X-NAS-R has an integrated one-touch button that can be configured to create instant data backup from the external USB device to the NAS and vice versa. In case of HDD failures, the hotspare feature in this RAID-configured device allows an administrator to replace the failed drive to prevent data loss, thereby ensuring efficient use of spare drives. The DX-2116X-NAS-R also supports enhanced security features like IP filters and policy-based auto IP blocking, network access protection, a common internet file system, host access control for shared folders, encrypted remote replication, antivirus protection and the importable secure sockets layer certificate. The device can send instant threat alerts via email, SMS, instant messaging and buzzer to the administrator. The DX-2116X-NAS-R storage device is priced at about Rs 1.05 million
ZyXEL introduces 600 Mbps HomePlug AV2 Powerline adapters
ZyXEL Communications, a leading provider of secure broadband networking, internet access and connected home and routing products, has launched 600 Mbps HomePlug AV2 Powerline adapters that support HD media streaming. The PLA5200 series adapters use smart link plus technology to counter performance-related issues such as noise interference.
The adapters use existing electrical wiring to provide internet connectivity on customer premises. They allow users to simultaneously use applications such as gaming, web browsing and HD streaming. The company claims that the PLA5200 Gigabit Powerline series of products offer a larger coverage and can be used to remove wireless dead spots without having to install new Ethernet cabling. The adapters are equipped with a pass-through plug, which frees up electrical outlets, and advanced encryption security codes that offer users a safe internet connection.
Aruba Networks launches the 802.11ac solution for enterprises
Aruba Networks, Inc., a leading global provider of next-generation network access solutions for the mobile enterprise segment, has launched the 802.11ac solution. The solution delivers gigabit Wi-Fi and enables enterprises to connect multiple mobility devices.
It offers enterprises the capability to manage real-time latency-sensitive unified communications and collaboration (UCC) applications such as Microsoft Lync and voice, and video and desktop sharing. Since these applications are often encrypted, Wi-Fi networks fail to distinguish and prioritise them over less sensitive data and file sharing streams. To overcome this challenge, the 802.11ac solution extracts call quality data from Microsoft’s Lync diagnostics application programming interface and combines it with network status data. The solution monitors data including time of call, delay in response time, packet loss, caller/callee identity mapping to the MAC and IP address, call status, voice or video call type and client sessions active at the time of the call. The collected data provides enterprises end-to-end data visibility and helps them prioritise work and identify network interference. In addition, the 802.11ac solution helps organisations to address issues related to faster and more reliable connectivity. The solution uses ClientMatch technology to ensure that clients are connected to the best possible access points as they roam within Aruba’s wireless LAN. In addition, by combining the company’s 220 SeriesAPs, ClientMatch technology and application visibility for real-time UCC applications, enterprises can optimise their networks by removing unused desk phones and any free access network ports on each desk.
Netmagic Solutions introduces SimpliDrive storage solution
Netmagic Solutions has launched the enterprise cloud object storage solution, SimpliDrive. The storage platform enables enterprises to create a backup of unstructured data and retrieve lost data. The search functionality offered by the storage solution provides easy access to users to select files that are stored in a digital container on SimpliDrive. The containers can be accessed directly through a browser or through an application using SimpliDrive APIs. The storage solution features a three-layered security architecture, which comprises role-based access control, container-level access control lists and time-bound URL expiry. Customers can contract their SimpliDrive cloud storage space and add multiple accounts to it. Users also have the option of creating accounts that can be classified in terms of departments within an organisation or various projects. Users can also create containers within these accounts and provide public or private access to each container. While private containers can be mapped to a single user, a public container can be allocated to a group of users. SimpliDrive is a scalable solution and offers data durability of 99.9 per cent.
