Satyendra Gupta, CFO, Aksh Optifibre Limited

July 03, 2014

A chartered accountant by qualification, Satyendra Gupta has over 27 years of experience in the areas of finance, accounts, taxation, and legal and secretarial practice. Over the years, he has worked with several organisations including Mawana Sugars, Delton Cables and Siel Limited.

Currently as chief financial officer (CFO) of Aksh Optifibre Limited, he is responsible for the company’s strategic financial management, including timely compliance, fund management, legal and secretarial matters, and corporate governance. In addition, he is tasked with identifying attractive investment opportunities.

Throughout his career, Gupta has been involved in fund raising both at the domestic and international levels, and has successfully worked on several company mergers and demergers. Identifying his most challenging and memorable assignment, he says, “Raising $40 million of funds for Aksh through global depository receipts and foreign currency convertible bonds in 2008 was a challenging and rewarding experience.” The funds were raised for expanding the company’s IPTV and VoIP businesses. “Back in 2008, both businesses were at a nascent stage; therefore, getting investors to put their money into these segments was a challenge in itself,” he says.

Gupta attributes his professional success in the corporate sector to his integrity towards work and the high ethical standards he has maintained throughout his career. In addition, a result-oriented mindset and a focused approach towards meeting targets and goals have helped him successfully execute even the most difficult tasks at work.

Gupta considers his impulsive nature to be his biggest weakness. However, over the years, he has learnt to exercise more patience and avoid taking impulsive decisions on both the professional as well as personal fronts.

Gupta describes his management style as conservative, with an emphasis on step-by-step learning. As a leader he is a firm believer in teamwork. He says, “Manpower is the biggest asset for a successful organisation. So I lay emphasis on team building. A team that bonds well and is fully aligned with the goals of the management is best placed to achieve the targets set by the leader.”

When he’s not number crunching, Gupta enjoys watching business news and sometimes tuning into family shows on TV. He is also a keen follower of cricket. He loves spending time with his wife and two sons, both of whom are pursuing a career in law.
