Sandeep Kapoor, Country Director, India and SAARC, JDSU

March 29, 2013

Sandeep Kapoor, Country Director, India ...
With 22 years of experience across the telecom and IT sector, Sandeep Kapoor is well placed to lead network and service enablement company JDSU’s India and SAARC operations. JDSU provides state-of-the-art T&M instruments and customer experience measurement solutions to industries like telecom, defence, R&D labs and manufacturing.

“The introduction of new services and network roll-out present exciting business opportunities for T&M solution providers,” says Kapoor. “Technologies like 3G and 4G and delivery of high quality services will require innovative T&M solutions. We will continue to pursue strategic mergers and acquisitions. In 2012, JDSU strengthened its portfolio by adding solutions like SFP Probe, long-term evolution (LTE)/3G performance and capacity test and radio frequency test solutions. We are committed to build a leaner and more scalable business.”

Kapoor has a B.Tech. in electronics and communications, and a senior management postgraduate degree from IIM Calcutta. He has worked with companies like Agilent, RCom and Wipro. He has expertise in sales management, strategic marketing, brand management and business development.

Kapoor believes that every job offers different challenges. “In 2001-02, the global telecom industry was experiencing major challenges, impacting IT offshoring. We took up the challenge and won some major projects from global network equipment manufacturers. In another assignment with a telecom operator, the mandate was to build up the business from scratch. At JDSU, building the team and transforming the sales process have been a memorable experience.”

To tap emerging business opportunities, Kapoor tracks industry trends. He says, “The Indian market is set to witness tremendous growth in mobile data. This will increase the popularity of data-centric de-vices. In addition, machine-to-machine connections, cloud computing and other telecom trends are adding to network complexity. Hence, testing service quality is a key priority. Data traffic explosion will make it crucial to have a comprehensive radio and Ethernet backhaul strategy. Given this dynamism, LTE, 3G and Ethernet backhaul roll-out and optimisation are major T&M market drivers.” The biggest challenge for T&M companies is the current macroeconomic environment, impacting carriers as well as network equipment manufacturers.

Kapoor unwinds by reading, listening to music and watching movies. “Movies are my big passion,” he says.
