VSNL to invest $40 million in the upcoming SEA-ME-WE-4 undersea cable

VSNL will invest $40 million in the upcoming SEA-ME-WE-4 undersea cable between Europe and Asia, which is to be lighted by the year-end. BTVL is the other Indian partner in the project. The estimated project cost of the cable system is $500 million, of which Bharti is expected to invest around $40 million. The proposed transoceanic cable network will have two landing stations in India, with VSNL setting up a station on the west coast in Mumbai and Bharti setting up another on the east coast in Chennai. The 15,000 km long cable network will link Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Italy en route to France.
