The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has decided to conduct simultaneous auction for 3G and Wi-Max spectrums.
According to DoT, simultaneous auctions will check any speculation by operators during bidding for Wi-Max spectrum. It will also ensure that the government gets aggressive bids for both streams of spectrum, given the uncertainty of the end-result during the auction. Since most operators would want a chunk of either 3G or Wi-Max spectrum, they will try to acquire at least one of the two in a simultaneous process. If the auction was to be conducted sequentially, some of the operators would have had the option to skip the 3G auction altogether and would only participate in Wi-Max spectrum bidding.
