Telecom subscriber base increases by 5.95 per cent in the quarter ended March 2005

According to the TRAI report on performance indicators, the telecom subscriber base grew by 5.95 per cent in the quarter ended March 2005 to reach 98.41 million. The subscriber base for fixed line and WLL services grew from 44.87 million in December 2004 to 46.19 million in March 2005. During the same period, the number of mobile subscribers grew from 48.01 million to 52.22 million. The share of private telecom operators in the mobile sector fell from 80 per cent to 79 per cent while that of public sector units increased from 20 to 21 per cent.
