DoT has allocated start-up spectrum to five new telecom players Datacom, Idea Cellular, Unitech, Swan Telecom and Loop Telecom in the Tamil Nadu and Orissa circles. It has also allotted 4.4 MHz of spectrum in Tamil Nadu and CDMA spectrum in the Northeast, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir circles. Additional GSM spectrum of 2 MHz has been approved for Bharti Airtel in the Tamil Nadu circle. However, the additional allotment of spectrum is subject to revised pricing as and when finalised and also depends on the pending court order in reference to Reliance Communication's (RCOM's) petition. The petition stated that extra spectrum held by GSM operators should be returned so that the same may be distributed to new players.
