DoT is likely to allow multiple service providers to jointly set up infrastructure and claim support from the Universal Service Obligation Fund. At present, service providers are allowed to bid for setting up towers and other related infrastructure on an individual basis. DoT's move will result in joint bids for the upcoming tender to set up 11,000 mobile towers across the country at an estimated cost of Rs 30-40 billion.
