June 15, 2005
BSNL has reportedly sought additional spectrum from DoT for the introduction of 3G mobile services, which it plans to start by the end of 2005. The company intends to modernise its NLD network by introducing IP TAX technology, which will be able to carry voice over a data network. The project is currently at a pilot stage and will be completed by March 2006, after which it will be introduced on the local exchange network. BSNL has already started the process of equipment procurement for the service.
