RCOM has reportedly won two licences, public infrastructure provider (PIP) and public service provider (PSP), in Uganda.

The licences will enable the company to offer mobile, fixed, internet, national and international long distance services in addition to Wi-Max and Wi-Fi services in Uganda. RCOM is planning to invest Rs 8 billion to roll out a telecom network (fixed and mobile) in Uganda and is likely to launch services in the country by the third quarter of 2008. It is planning to launch mobile services on the GSM platform and then expand its portfolio to include other communication-related services. Meanwhile, the company has also received the Federal Communications Commission's approval to complete the merger with Yipes Holdings.
