TRAI has decided to not specify a base price for the auction of spectrum for mobile TV services. According to TRAI, the auction will be conducted through a controlled ascending process and will not be restricted to only telecom operators. Others, including broadcasters, cable operators and DTH service providers will be allowed to bid. The regulator will also adopt a technology-neutral approach and will not specify the platform that should be used by players who want to provide this facility. This will allow potential players to optimise investments by using a combination of mobile telecommunications network technology and broadcasting technology.
