RCOM is reportedly in talks with Maxis Communications to buy a controlling stake in Aircel Cellular. Maxis holds 74 per cent stake in Aircel, while the remaining 26 per cent is held by the promoters of Hyderabad's Apollo Hospitals. According to sources, the deal will value Aircel at about $7 billion and allow RCOM to use Aircel's licences to operate in all the telecom circles. Aircel, which has licences to operate in 22 circles, was recently allocated wireless spectrum in eight circles.
