Bharti to approach the SC against the ruling of the TDSAT

May 15, 2005

According to news reports, Bharti is planning to approach the Supreme Court against the ruling of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). The TDSAT had, in March this year, dismissed Bharti's petition for a refund of Rs 1.35 billion paid by it as licence fees for entry into the basic services segment prior to the new uniform licensing regime introduced by the government. Bharti had moved the TDSAT after its plea was rejected by DoT. Bharti had surrendered five basic service licences – Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh – following the government's decision to issue unified access licences.
