The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) may conduct an e-auction to allocate spectrum for 3G mobile services.
June 15, 2007
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) may conduct an e-auction to allocate spectrum for 3G mobile services. According to sources, online bidding will be both quick and transparent. The proposal is still under discussion. Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has emphasised that only existing operators can bid for 3G spectrum. Though DoT had proposed bringing in foreign players, this is against TRAI's recommendations. The Association of Unified Service Providers had also opposed allowing foreign players to bid for 3G spectrum.
