The Essar Group is targeting to sell BPL Mobile for $1 billion

The Essar Group is targeting to sell BPL Mobile for $1 billion. The final call on the sale will be taken in July 2007 when the Ruias expect to conclude their ongoing arbitration on the matter with HTIL. Idea Cellular and Maxis Communications may be potential buyers for BPL Mobile, which operates in the Mumbai circle and has 10 MHz of spectrum. However, if companies such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications, which currently own 15 MHz of spectrum in the Mumbai circle, were to acquire BPL Mobile, they would have to forgo 5 MHz of spectrum. This is because DoT allows operators to own only 15 MHz in any one circle.
