Lucent Technologies plans to invest a further $80 million in a third generation mobile telecom research and development centre in Nanjing city of east China.

Lucent Technologies plans to invest a further $80 million in a third generation mobile telecom research and development centre in Nanjing city of east China. The Nanjing R&D centre, which focuses on CDMA2000 and WCDMA products, was set up in September 2003 with an initial investment of $50 million. In July 2004, Lucent invested another $70 million in the centre. The US company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the local government to increase investment and expand the R&D centre.
