The government is to announce the 3G spectrum policy by end April 2007. According to DoT officials, the Department of Defence has agreed to vacate 40 MHz of spectrum by July 2007. The task of shifting the defence services to an alternative spectrum band is also reportedly in progress and is expected to be completed around the same time. The communications ministry is also understood to be in favour of auctioning 3G spectrum.
