Sunil Bharti Mittal will formally step down as chief executive officer of Bharti Airtel when he turns 50 on October 23, 2007. This is consistent with Mittal's earlier statements that he would stop being a hands-on manager of Bharti and any other businesses when he turns 50. According to the company, several restructurings have already taken place in the organisation to achieve this vision. Joint managing director Rajan Mittal will also relinquish his position in order to focus on Bharti Retail. CEO-designate Manoj Kohli is expected to take over.
