TRAI has initiated a consultation process to reduce the access deficit charge (ADC) levy for fiscal year 2007-08 from the current estimated Rs 33.35 billion. Operators have been asked to express their opinion on whether the present ADC reduction trend and the existing ADC payment mechanism should be maintained in 2007-08. According to sources, TRAI may reduce the ADC to Rs 16-20 billion, from April 1, 2007 onwards. It is also set to make international calls 10-15 per cent cheaper by March.
