DoT may delicense 50 MHz of bandwidth in 5.82-5.87 GHz frequency, used to provide commercial Wi-Fi and Wi-Max services. This is in addition to the already delicensed 80 MHz bandwidth in the 2.4 GHz band for the same. The move would help operators expand their broadband networks to rural areas.
The government is also negotiating with the Department of Space to make spectrum in the 2.5-3.5 GHz band available for Wi-Max services.
