RJIL to partner with local cable operators to expand its wireline broadband business
Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) is planning to partner with local cable operators to expand its wireline broadband business. Under these partnerships, RJIL will either compensate operators for the homes they are present in, share revenues or profits, reimburse costs, or completely acquire the company.
According to reports, RJIL has already laid 250,000 km of fibre-optic network till June 2015. However, laying fibre to the individual homes has led to high expenditures. To overcome this challenge, the company is in discussions with a number of cable operators in Mumbai and Bangalore that have the required infrastructure to connect to the homes.
Under its fibre-to-the-home business, RJIL plans to provide services such as fixedline telephony, Wi-Fi connectivity and video -on-demand. It aims to connect 1 million homes with fibre by April 2016.
