Vodafone India launches 3G services in Jorhat, Assam
Vodafone India has launched 3G services on its own network in Jorhat, Assam. To this end, the operator has installed 63 3G towers in the city.
In order to increase the uptake of the 3G services, Vodafone has also launched ‘3G Experience Cards' for customers that would offer free 30 MB 3G data for one day. These cards would be available at all Vodafone stores and multi brand retail outlets across Jorhat.
Vodafone had acquired 3G spectrum in the 2100 MHz band in the Assam and Northeast circles in the March 2015 spectrum auctions. It has been offering 3G services in these circles through intra-circle roaming pacts. The operator will now progressively roll out its own 3G network in these regions.
At present, Vodafone India has more than 4.6 million customers in the Assam and the Northeast circles with 40 per cent being data users.
