GTL awards energy management contract to Intelligent Energy for its telecom towers
GTL Limited has awarded a contract to UK-based Intelligent Energy to supply energy management services across more than 27,400 telecom towers in India. The deal is likely to contribute to hydrogen fuel cell development and is expected to have a transformative impact on India’s energy market.
According to Intelligent Energy, the transaction will deliver contracted revenues of approximately £1.2 billion over ten years. Essential Energy, the subsidiary of Intelligent Energy in India, will assume the power management for GTL’s telecom towers. The company intends to shift around 70 per cent of the managed telecom towers from diesel power to hydrogen fuel cells throughout the contracts’ tenure.
The company is of the view that its fuel cell technology will help in reducing costs associated with the conventional energy grid. It will also improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
