TTSL deploys indigenous technology at 500 sites to reduce energy consumption
Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) has deployed an indigenous technology developed by TICET- a joint venture between TTSL, IIT Bombay and Telecom Centre of Excellence at 500 sites to reduce energy consumption.
The technology allows telecom companies check the status of power consumption at their base stations transceiver stations (BTS) sites, monitor the power supply from diesel generators and assess the carbon footprint of each BTS. According to TTSL, the industry can reduce up to 10-15 per cent of their energy expenditure if this technology is at 50 per cent of the total mobile tower sites. This can lead to a benefit of Rs 10 billion annually.
Meanwhile, TTSL has set up 1,000 new 3G BTS sites in the Maharashtra and Goa circle, taking the total number to 2,800 sites. Going forward, the company plans to add 600 more 3G sites in the circle, out of which 200 sites will be set up in Pune.
