Datawind to set up manufacturing plants in India
Canada-based firm Datawind is planning to invest Rs 2 billion to set up manufacturing plants in the country. The company will set up two plants, each with a budget of Rs 1 billion. The company is likely to set up these plants in the eastern and southern parts of the country. Datawind is currently in talks with various contract manufacturers for the same.
Presently, Datawind has two production units in the country, both in Punjab. The company produces smartphones, tablets, chargers and other products at these units.
The Amritsar plant of Datawind has a production capacity of 250,000 units per month and at present around 120,000 are being manufactured per month. The company is also looking at manufacturing smartphones for other brands in future.
