Bharti Airtel reports 40.2 per cent growth in profits for the quarter ended June 2015
Bharti Airtel has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 15.54 billion for the quarter ended June 2015, a growth of 40.2 per cent over Rs 11.09 billion earned during the quarter ended June 2014. Growth in net profit occurred on account of gain from sale from sale of tower assets and increase in revenues. The operator’s revenues grew by 3.1 per cent from Rs 229.62 billion to Rs 236.71 billion during the same period. This can be attributed to a strong growth of 56.9 per cent in its consolidated mobile data revenues from Rs 22.04 billion for the quarter ended June 2014 to Rs 34.6 billion for the same quarter in 2015. Mobile data revenues constituted 14.6 per cent of the total revenues during the quarter ended June 2015 as compared to 9.6 per cent in the corresponding quarter in 2014.
Higher revenues resulted in an increase in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBIDTA) by 6.4 per cent from Rs 77.67 billion in the quarter ended June 2014 to Rs 82.62 billion during the corresponding quarter in 2015. The EBIDTA margin improved by 1.1 percentage points, from 33.8 per cent to 34.9 per cent.
Bharti Airtel’s mobile subscriber base in India grew by 10.1 per cent from 209.41 million as of June 2014 to 230.66 million as of June 2015. The operator’s total voice volume in India grew by 7.38 per cent on year-on-year basis. Consequently, the average voice usage per subscriber decreased from 435 minutes during the quarter ended June 2014 to 424 minutes during the corresponding quarter in 2015. Voice realization per minute declined by 9.02 per cent from Re 0.38 to Re 0.35 on account of reduction in roaming and interconnection charges.
