Cisco to acquire San Francisco-based security company, OpenDNS for $635 million
Cisco plans to acquire OpenDNS, a privately held security company based in San Francisco for $635 million.
OpenDNS provides advanced threat protection for mobile devices. The acquisition is expected to boost Cisco’s security everywhere approach by adding broad visibility and threat intelligence from the OpenDNS cloud enabled platform.
As part of an agreement, Cisco will pay $635 million in cash and assumed equity awards, plus retention based incentives for acquiring OpenDNS. The employees of OpenDNS will join the Cisco Security Business Group, which is led by David Goeckeler, senior vice president and general manager. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first quarter of financial 2016, subject to regulatory approvals.
