MediaTek aims to ship 4 million LTE chipsets in India during 2015-16
June 16, 2015
Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek expects strong demand for long term evolution (LTE) smartphones in India to drive demand for the company’s LTE chipsets.
The company is expecting to ship about 4 million LTE chipsets in India in 2015-16 on the back of the mass rollout of 4G services by Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited and Bharti Airtel across the country. India is the second largest chipset market for MediaTek after China.
Globally, MediaTek is aiming to ship about 450 million chipsets in 2015-16. Out of the total chipsets shipment, about 150 million will be LTE chipsets. Last year, it shipped 350 million chipsets, of which 40 million were LTE-enabled.
