Videocon Telecom set to launch 4G services in few circles within 6-8 months
Videocon Telecom is planning to launch its 4G services in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar circles within the next 6-8 months. The telecom operator has stated that it has set up the requisite infrastructure and is ready to launch the services in the key cities of these two states.
The company is presently waiting for the 4G ecosystem to mature, so as to ensure availability of affordable 4G handsets. Currently, the long term evolution (LTE)-supportive smartphones that are available in the market are expensive in nature and are not widely available.
Earlier in February 2015, the company had announced that it is investing Rs 12 billion over three years for the launch of 4G services in three circles. The services will be launched in Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West) and Bihar circles across 29 cities. It will roll out its 4G services in six cities in phase 1, 12 cities in phase 2 and another 11 cities in phase 3 of the launch.
Videocon Telecom holds 5 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in these circles and plans to utilise this spectrum for rollout of 4G LTE services.
