The Delhi High Court on has directed domestic handset vendor Intex Technologies (India) Limited to pay royalties to Sweden-based Ericsson for alleged infringement of eight patents. These patents relate to 2G, 3G and EDGE technologies that used in mobile phones and tablets. The High Court has instructed Intex to pay 50 per cent of the amount of the royalty directly to Ericsson while secure the remaining 50 per cent amount with a bank guarantee, within a period of four weeks.

Earlier in April 2014, Ericsson had approached the High Court seeking a restrain on Intex from selling, importing or manufacturing its 2G, 3G and EDGE devices as it was infringing eight of Ericsson’s patents. Ericsson has filed similar cases against Micromax Informatics Limited, Xiaomi Technology India Private Limited and Gionee Communication Equipment Company Limited. While all these cases are at different stages, the High Court has presented interim arrangements for payment of royalties to Ericsson.
