Government receives bids of Rs 860 billion at the end of the fourth day of the spectrum auctions

The government has received bids to the tune of Rs 860 billion from telecom operators after completing 24 rounds at the end of the fourth day of the spectrum auctions. Thus, the government has been able to cross the minimum targeted revenue from spectrum auctions, which stands at Rs 820 billion. The auctions will resume on March 9, 2015 as there is still unsold spectrum left.

In 800 MHz band, maximum bidding activity was witnessed for the Assam, Northeast and Odisha circles.  The 900 MHz band continued to witness aggressive bidding, with most bids received in Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab circles. Similarly, bidding was witnessed for spectrum in the 2100 MHz band in Northeast, Assam and Rajasthan circles. However, no bidding has yet started in the 2100 MHz band for Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata circles.

A total of 380.75 MHz of spectrum is on offer in the 900 MHz band, 1800 MHz and 800 MHz while 5 MHz is up for bidding in the 2100 MHz band across 17 telecom circles in the country.
