BSNL to introduce VoIP services through broadband for connecting to US and UK
December 15, 2006
BSNL plans to introduce voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services through broadband connections for connecting to the US and the UK. The company would invite expressions of interest from ISPs and international telecom operators over the next twothree months for tie-ups with companies that have media gateways (to convert voice traffic to VoIP). Calling rates are slated to decrease to Rs 1.25 per minute using IP telephony as opposed to the current Rs 6 per minute. Meanwhile, the company is planning to launch global roaming services with about 400 foreign operators. It currently does not have any national roaming arrangements with private mobile players.
