Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited approaches government for additional frequency
May 15, 2006
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), Mumbai has approached the government for additional frequency of 2 MHz to expand its cellular mobile services. The company has reportedly crossed the 100,000 mark in the city. This is the second time in the last six months that it is seeking additional spectrum to expand services. CDMA operators had earlier objected to DoT's decision to allocate additional spectrum to MTNL saying they were being discriminated against as they were denied additional spectrum despite having the prescribed subscriber base.
