Abhishek Chauhan, Senior Consultant, ICT, South Asia and Middle East, Frost & Sullivan
Tight deadlines and long working hours notwithstanding, Abhishek Chauhan is able to strike a fair balance between work and play. He says, “It all boils down to how one manages one’s time. I am able to wrap up my day at a decent hour most of the time, except when I am chasing an urgent target.”
And what are the targets before him? “I am currently spearheading Frost & Sullivan’s research division in the mobile wireless space. This entails handling several consulting assignments with leading telecom players. My short-term goal is to take our research to the next level in the course of this year. My long-term goal may vary in accordance with market conditions,” he says.
Chauhan has extensive consulting experience in the fields of mobile and wireless telephony, business strategy, handset and equipment manufacturing, and telecom and IT. His areas of expertise in these fields range from market and competitive intelligence, portfolio planning and pricing formulation to strategising and project planning. His business strategy and planning-related skills were sharpened during his stint with Motorola Mobility.
Besides, he has several international telecom projects under his belt. He has provided business-related recommendations for multiple telecom mobility strategy and planning projects across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, Asia (excluding China), Australia and New Zealand. The scope of these projects included product and portfolio planning, enhancing the telecom value chain, VAS, user interfaces and experience, potential business models adopted by operators, marketing and return on investments, distribution strategies and tracking product lifecycles.
Chauhan considers his time at Motorola as the most exciting. “While each assignment was a learning experience, being part of the Android project at Motorola was a completely different experience. Even today, the Android project is close to my heart and shall remain so,” he says.
He credits his success to the unfailing support provided by his family. “My parents are my greatest source of inspiration as they have struggled to bring me to where I am today,” he says. “I owe everything I have today to their love and support.”
Chauhan’s interests range from researching and writing on telecom trends to sports. “I enjoy sports, especially squash and am an avid squash player. Besides, I go to the gym regularly and try to visit my parents in Chandigarh as often as possible. I also enjoy watching movies, reading and travelling. My wife and I went to Egypt on our last vacation and were very taken up by its culture and history.”
