BTVL, VSNL, MTNL and TTML report quarterly financial results

Bharti Tele Ventures Limited (BTVL) has posted a 71.14 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 5.43 billion in the third quarter ended December 31, 2005 over the corresponding period of the previous financial year. The company's total income rose to Rs 30.45 billion during the quarter under review, as against Rs 21.71 billion registered during the same period last year. Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) also announced a 25 per cent growth in total revenue for the quarter ended December 31, 2005 at Rs 10.75 billion over the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Profit after tax rose by 5.5 per cent to Rs 1.5 billion.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), on the other hand, reported a 36.5 per cent decline in profits to Rs 1.27 billion during the quarter ended December 31, 2005 from Rs 2 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. Its income from mobile operations, however, increased by over 125 per cent to Rs 1.53 billion compared to Rs 680 million in the corresponding period in the previous year. Meanwhile, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (TTML) reported a lower net loss of Rs 1.29 billion for the quarter ended December 31, 2005 as compared to Rs 1.45 billion in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Revenues during the reporting quarter increased 52 per cent to Rs 2.89 billion.
