Ciena to buy SDN vendor Cyan for $335 million
Ciena Corporation is planning to buy Cyan, a provider of software defined networking, network functions virtualisation, and packet-optical solutions for network operators, for $335 million.
Following the buyout, Ciena’s Agility software portfolio along with Cyan’s network management software and platforms is expected to enable greater monetisation for network operators through more efficient utilisation of network assets and faster time-to-market. Further, the acquisition of Cyan is expected to accelerate the availability of a complete solution for Ciena customers to deliver virtualised networks and services on-demand.
Earlier, for the first quarter of 2015, Cyan had reported 80 per cent growth in its revenues which stood at $36 million. Meanwhile, the company’s net loss for the first quarter widened to $52.9 million as against a net loss of $17.8 million in the same period a year ago.
