Idea Cellular reports 62.26 per cent growth in profit in 2014-15

April 29, 2015

Idea Cellular’s consolidated net profit increased by 62.26 per cent from Rs 19.67 billion in 2013-14 to Rs 31.92 billion in 2014-15. The operator’s consolidated revenue also increased by 19.1 per cent to Rs 315.70 billion in 2014-15 from Rs 265.18 during 2013-14.

Further, on a standalone basis, the company’s revenue increased by 19.1 per cent at Rs 315.54 billion in 2014-15 in comparison to Rs 265.03 billion in 2013-14. The company has claimed that the results for January-March 2015 quarter and the financial year 2014-15 are not comparable to earlier quarters and financial years on account of the changes effected in the inter connect charges by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. According to the operator, the gross revenue both for January-March 2015 and for the financial year 2014-15 has been negatively impacted by Rs 1.05 billion, though the impact on earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization has been minimal.

In the fourth quarter of 2014-15, Idea Cellular added 2,547 3G sites and 5,436 2G sites. The number of 3G subscribers grew to 14,512,000 in the fourth quarter of 2014-15 from 12,945,000 in the third quarter of the same period. Further, the operator doubled its 3G data subscriber base, adding 7.3 million new 3G users in the last one year, with its overall 3G data base standing at 14.5 million. During the year, 3G data volume grew by about 2.3 times from 13.1 billion MB in the fourth quarter of 2014 to 30.7 billion MB in the corresponding period in 2015.

For 2015, the company’s capex spend stood at Rs 40.5 billion (excluding spectrum payments for the recently concluded spectrum auction).
