Idea Cellular has registered year-on-year (y-o-y) revenue growth of 18 per cent in the first quarter of 2014 as compared to the first quarter of 2013. The revenues from Rs 55.03 billion for the quarter ended June 2012 to Rs 65.38 billion in the same quarter in 2013.
Strong revenue growth resulted in better earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation margins, which increased by 5.7 percentage points to 31.7 per cent for the quarter under review. Further, Idea registered y-o-y earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation growth of 43 per cent. The operator also curtailed its debt from Rs 114.85 billion as of June 2012 to Rs 102.19 billion as of June 2013.
The key drivers for the growth have been increased revenues from voice and data services coupled with benefits accrued on account of scaling-up of operations and better cost management.
In the first quarter of 2014 the total voice minutes for the operator stood at 147.3 billion registering a y-o-y growth of 12.5 per cent. As of June 30, 2013 the operators’ cumulative subscriber base stood at 125 million.
