Axiata Group posts its results for the first quarter of 2013
Axiata Group has reported a net profit of MYR 675.2 million for the first quarter of 2013 on account of foreign exchange gains.
In addition, increase in net profits in markets like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh has also contributed to the group's performance. For the period under consideration, the company's revenues increased from MYR 4.2 billion in the first quarter of 2012 to MYR 4.5 billion in the corresponding quarter in 2013. However, the company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) declined by 2.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2013 and stood at MYR 1.8 billion. The Axiata Group's EBITDA declined due to higher costs associated with the expansion of its infrastructure for supporting data services.
For the period under review, the group's total mobile subscriber base registered a growth of 9.4 per cent and stood at 219 million. Going forward, in the financial year 2013, Axiata Group expects to register revenue and EBITDA growth of 7.6 per cent and 0.2 per cent respectively.
