Ericsson and Ciena have entered into a strategic global pact to jointly develop transport solutions targeted at the IP-optical convergence and service provider software-defined networking market.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will provide its clients Ciena’s converged packet optical-based products and solutions. The partnership between the two companies is expected to lower total cost of ownership and facilitate faster deployment of new services.
