Bharti Airtel continues to witness changes in the top management with the resignation of Jagbir Singh, the company’s chief technology officer (CTO) and director network services group. Following Singh’s resignation, Bharti Airtel has appointed Abhay Savargaonkar as the company’s CTO.

Singh had joined Bharti Airtel in 2001 and was responsible for strategic planning of the operator’s mobile network and network architecture. He led the mobility network, 3G strategy and planning, and Wi-Max deployment teams at Bharti Airtel.

In between, he had a short stint of nine months with Reliance Communications as its president (technology and networks) between July 2010 and April 2011. However, Singh rejoined Bharti Airtel in 2011.

In the past, he has worked with organisations such as Bharti’s Infotel group, Nortel (in Asia Pacific), Lucent Technologies and in Defense Research and Development Organisation, Government of India.

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel’s new CTO, Savargaonkar was previously serving as the chief of network operations and has been with the company since 2006, overseeing the service provider’s network operations across all its verticals in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

A large number of senior executives have quit Bharti Airtel over the past few months in the wake of restructuring process initiated under the leadership of chief executive officer, Gopal Vittal who assumed office a year ago. Earlier, company’s legal head Jyoti Pawar and chief marketing officer, enterprise business, Sukesh Jain, had put in their papers. Other senior executives who have resigned from Bharti Airtel include Rohit Gothi, head, Delhi circle, Vikas Singh, hub head, Kerala and Tamil Nadu circles and Mohit Parasher, head, retail outlets.
