Tata Communications appoints Rangu Salgame as CEO of growth ventures
Rangu Salgame has been appointed chief executive officer (CEO) of Tata Communications’ growth ventures. With this appointment, Salgame has become a member of Tata Communications’ Global Management Council. He will lead the company’s global businesses including data centres, cloud, cyber security, media and entertainment. In the past, he has worked with companies such as Cisco Systems, Verizon Communications and PricewaterhouseCoopers. At Cisco, he was responsible for preparing and executing a strong strategy to transform the company’s business in India and other emerging markets. Also, he led the growth of Verizon’s internet and data business and helped the company become a major global business communication service provider.
AUSPI appoints new president and VP
The Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI) has appointed C.S. Rao and Anand Dalal as the president and vice-president (VP) respectively. Rao is currently serving as president at Reliance Communications while Dalal is working with Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) as senior VP, corporate regulatory affairs. Rao takes over from Madhav Joshi, who is serving as president, legal and regulatory, TTSL.
Airtel Africa appoints new MDs
Airtel Africa has appointed Louis Lubala and Antoine Pamboro as the new managing directors (MDs) for its operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Gabon respectively. Lubala will lead an aggressive agenda to expand the company’s network capabilities and increase its reach across the country while Pamboro will build a strong data service portfolio for Airtel’s customers in Gabon. Prior to his current role, Pamboro was heading the operator’s operations in the DRC. In the past, he has been MD of Celtel Congo Brazzaville and Camtel Mobile in Cameroon. Lubala was heading Airtel’s operations in Gabon prior to his new appointment. In the past, he has led the company’s operations in Niger and Zambia as well.
MAIT announces leadership team for 2012-13
The Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT) has announced its leadership team for 2012-13. J.V. Ramamurthy, president, HCL Infosystems Limited, has been elected president while Amar Babu, MD, Lenovo, has been elected VP. MAIT aims to play a pivotal role in the growth of the Indian telecom industry and focus on enhancing the visibility and relevance of telecom manufacturing in areas like policy, advisory and research. MAIT will also work with the government, the industry and other stakeholders to improve the industry’s profile.
ZTE defers plans to introduce pay cuts
ZTE Corporation has deferred its plans to reduce the remuneration of its employees in India. In August 2012, the company had proposed a temporary 20 per cent pay cut for senior Indian executives drawing a fixed monthly salary of over Rs 150,000. A 12-20 per cent cut had also been proposed for expat Chinese employees. The proposal was in line with the company’s efforts to optimise its resources. However, it faced strong opposition to these proposals from employees. ZTE employs around 1,600 workers in India directly or indirectly.
Amdocs appoints regional VP and head for Southwest Asia
Sanjay Sharma has been appointed as Amdocs’ regional VP and head for Southwest Asia. Sharma will supervise the company’s business with telecom operators in this region. He will be responsible for driving Amdocs’ growth in the areas of operations/business support systems and policy control as well as for enhancing customer experience. In the past, he has worked with companies such as IBM Global Services, Huawei, Samsung and Multitech.
Bharti Airtel appoints CEO for Nigerian operations
Bharti Airtel has appointed Segun Ogunsanya as CEO for the company’s Nigerian operations. He will report to Manoj Kohli, CEO (International) and joint MD. The appointment will be effective from November 26, 2012. Ogunsanya will take charge from Rajan Swaroop who has been leading Airtel’s Nigerian operations for the past two years. Meanwhile, Swaroop will be appointed as non-executive director on the board of Airtel Nigeria. Prior to his current appointment, Ogunsanya was serving as the MD and CEO of the Nigerian Bottling Company and was supervising the company’s operations across diverse markets in Africa.
National Instruments appoints new VP for emerging markets, Asia and RoW
National Instruments has appointed Victor Mieres VP, emerging markets, Asia and rest of the world (RoW). Mieres will be based in Singapore and will be responsible for the company’s sales and marketing, and support operations in India, Russia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia and Africa. Prior to this, he was VP, sales, for Asia.
