Uninor rebrands itself as Telenor in India

Norway-based telecom operator Telenor Group has changed the name of its subsidiary in India from Uninor to Telenor. The company is planning to spend around Rs 1 billion to propagate the new brand in its six operational circles, namely, UP (West), UP (East), Bihar (including Jharkhand), Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat

Telenor India will also offer compensation to the consumers for call drops. Further, the company will invest significantly in transforming its network and retail presence across circles. To this end, the company has given a contract worth Rs 12 billion to China-based Huawei to modernise and manage its network across thy six circles within a three-year time frame. The project will start in 2015 with modernisation of 5,000 mobile tower sites. The remaining 19,000 sites will be modernised in 2016. The operator will also consider spectrum sharing, trading and merger and acquisitions, besides participating in auctions, to acquire more spectrum.

Commenting on the new brand, Vivek Sood, CEO, Telenor India said, “We will continue to offer the most affordable services and deliver innovative solutions like call drop reimbursement, customised product offers and build excellence in customer service through easy and fair means using digital and self help solutions.” Elaborating further on the brand strategy of the company, Upanga Dutta, CMO, Telenor India said, “The new brand campaign depicts the spirit of Telenor brand that believes in delivering more for less for our customers.”
