Smartphone market in India grew 44 per cent year-on-year, says IDC
According to International Data Corporation’s latest Asia Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report, 26.5 million smartphones were shipped to India during quarter ended June 2015. This was 44 per cent higher than the number of smartphones shipped during the corresponding quarter in 2014. This growth was aided by vendors using online retail to market their devices.
The overall Indian mobile phone market, however, reduced in size as vendors shipped 59.4 million devices during quarter ended June 2015 as against 63.2 million devices shipped during the corresponding quarter in 2015.
Samsung continued to lead the Indian smartphone market with a share of about 23 per cent, followed by Micromax and Intex, with market share of 17 per cent and 11 respectively. The other dominant players in the market are Lava (7 per cent) and Lenovo (6 per cent). Lenovo emerged as the leader in the 4G-enabled handset segment, selling over a million 4G devices during quarter ended June 2015.
